The Indiana Pacers gave us some real — but unfortunate — news about Myles Turner at media day.

No timetable has been announced for his return.

While there is no reason to fear Turner missing an extended period of time, there isn’t any evidence that he’s going to be ready later this week either. Concussions don’t always clear up within a few days and Turner should be given as much time as he needs to get himself healthy once again.
In Turner’s case, there are reasons to be concerned in the long-term, especially if he gets another concussion. While basketball isn’t an impact sport like football, we’ve seen how some players seem more predisposed to them and had their careers shortened. Austin Collie and Wes Welker come to mind, as well as Dale Earnhardt Jr. in NASCAR.
Turner’s health — regardless of basketball — is the first concern, but for fans and the Indiana Pacers organization, one hopes he doesn’t have to deal with the effects of this one for long.
