Michael Jordan: Why Russell Westbrook has the GOAT on his side
Michael Jordan furthered his budding alliance with Russell Westbrook when it was announced he would help present the OKC star into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
Having Michael Jordan on your side is always a good thing. Remember when the GOAT said “Thirty years ago, that’s me”? Now he’s traveling out to Oklahoma to present Russ into the Hall.
What is it about Russ that enamors Michael Jordan?
First off, his attitude. They both have the “I’m going to make you wish you never became a professional athlete” mentality as soon as they see their opponent. The truth is, Russ was tied down by Durant. Imagine if Jordan had to play with Karl Malone? OF COURSE he would have had less production.

Now that he’s rid of that baggage, Russ can go full MJ this season. He finally gets to showcase his true powers, and he’s doing it all with Micheal Jordan on speed dial.
Westbrook has already become more vocal in practice and during the preseason games; he’s reportedly stopped practice for lack of intensity a few times. Sounds a lot like something MJ would do.
I’m not saying that Russell Westbrook is as good as Michael Jordan. I just find it interesting that MJ never compared Kobe to himself; the man just doesn’t do comparisons.
Maybe he knows something. Westbrook is a Jordan brand sponsor so the two have been acquaintances for some time. Russ’ looked good in preseason, ensuring that his teammates are getting involved every play. Michael Jordan knows better than anyone that it takes an entire team to win championships. Maybe he’s imprinted that on Russ.
Who knows what could be in store this season from Jordan 2.0?
