Meyers Leonard apologizes for his cheapshot on Jimmer Fredette
Jimmer Fredette might've attempted his last NBA field goal on Tuesday night.
In the dying moments of the New York Knicks' 104-85 blowout loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, the former BYU standout/on-again, off-again NBA guard attempted a three-point shot at the top of the arc.
Myeers Leonard didn't take too kindly to this, chopping a forearm down onto Fredette's thigh.
The Columbian's Erik Gunder (h/t Ball Don't Lie's Kelly Dwyer) posted a Vine of the incident. The only explanation here is that Leonard was bothered by Fredette refusing to take his L and go gently into that good night.
After the game, Leonard tweeted an apology to Fredette, admitting he had been out of line.
Hey @jimmerfredette my bad. I can raise my hand as a man and admit when I'm wrong. Heard nothing but good things about you. Bad play by me

Fredette accepted the apology. All in the game, as it were.
No worries at all bro! Appreciate that but it's all in the moment. Good luck the rest of the year. https://t.co/1uQEup4sbB

And thus ended the brief and doomed Jimmer Experiment in New York.
According to ESPN's Ian Begley (h/t ABC 6 Philadelphia), Fredette's 10-day contract with the Knicks will expire Wednesday and the team will explore free agency to fill his spot. His brief call-up included two games played and seven points scored in five total minutes of playing time.
Of course, these figures sound middling until, well:
As for Fredette's future, he'll likely end up back in the D-League with the Westchester Knicks, where he averaged 21.8 points through 30 games this season.
If this is the end of the Jimmer NBA Era, we can at least take solace in knowing he went out doing what he loved best: pulling up from deep and making people inordinately mad for reasons we can't discern.
Dan is on Twitter. He once mocked Meyers Leonard to his face during an IU-Illinois game back in the day. Leonard laughed so they're probably still cool, though. Probably.
