Memphis Grizzlies: Injuries ruin the ultimate Gasol matchup
As the Memphis Grizzlies (31-22) battle the second-seed San Antonio Spurs (39-11), we miss out on the start of a new chapter of the “Gasol Brothers” matchup.
Ever since the Memphis Grizzlies traded Pau Gasol, every game he returns is almost heart-warming. Not only was he the first All-Star in franchise history, but he gave the city of Memphis their first taste of playoff basketball.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that his little brother, Marc, is the best player on this basketball team. He may even be the best center in the association.
Whenever the Gasol brothers match up, it’s always a treat. Who doesn’t love watching two seven-foot BROTHERS battle it out? Both big men are passing wizards. They play the game with finesse, looking like giant ballerinas with their beautiful footwork in the post.
However, the two centers are different as well. One can protect the rim like a jealous girlfriend at the club. In contrast, the other sticks to his skilled offensive game, schooling oppositions with his post IQ.
This chapter is different
Since Marc’s debut in the league, whenever the Gasol brothers go head-to-head, it’s always a sight to see.
This time, though, seems different. I haven’t pin-pointed an exact reason.
Maybe, it’s because Pau is on the Spurs, a long-time division foe. It could be because his brother Marc told him to go there.
This current chapter of this sibling battle is the best one. Yeah, it was fun seeing an All-Star Pau Gasol, who was winning titles, going up against his little brother – who overcame the “Man Boobs” moniker to develop into an elite two-way center on an up-and-coming team. On the other hand, you can’t deny the intrigue of this new scene.
The Gasols are arguably the greatest brother duo in basketball history. Each of them are potential Hall-of-Famers. On top of that, Pau is on his last ride. You always hate seeing a great player on the final legs of his career.
Unfortunately, the first matchup of this new, epic beginning isn’t going to happen in this game. Pau Gasol will sit out as he’s nursing a broken hand.
Hopefully, he can come back soon, so we can see the future Hall-of-Famer face his stud “little” brother once again.
