LeBron reportedly holding workouts for Cavs weeks before training camp

The Cleveland Cavaliers do not start training camp until Sept. 29, but LeBron James wants his teammates to get together before then for a team-wide workout in Miami. Even more impressive, according to Chris Haynes of Northeast Ohio Media Group, several players and coaches have already landed in Miami while the majority of the team’s roster is expected to arrive later this week.

As the captain of the Eastern Conference champions, James is doing his part to ensure his team will be ready for the difficult journey ahead. The Cavaliers are among the favorites to win the NBA title. However, the uncertainty of how Irving, Love and Anderson Varejao will bounce back from season-ending injuries will be an early question mark.

James understands it’s championship or bust, thus the reason he’s organizing this gathering.

According to Haynes, James is still not over the way the 2014-15 season ended with the Cavs winning the Eastern Conference but falling just short of the ultimate goal thanks to a litany of injuries and bad luck. According to swingman Joe Harris, James is “on a mission” and is setting the tone for the entire season, weeks before it even starts.

James is no stranger to loss-fueled workout regimens, including a workout with Hakeem Olajuwon following the Miami Heat’s loss to the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. James came back from that summer as a new player, leading the Heat to an NBA championship while authoring one of the most complete seasons of his career (averaging 27.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game — earning him MVP honors in the process).

Something tells us that this “mission” thing may catch on.
