Larry Nance Jr. won't defend his dad's '84 Slam Dunk title ... for now

Lakers' rookie Larry Nance Jr. has become a human highlight reel, showcasing many electrifying dunks this season. But he won't participate in the 2016 All-Star Weekend slam dunk contest.

Nance, whose father (Larry Nance Sr.) won the first slam dunk contest in 1984, is currently suffering from an injured right knee. According to ESPN, the NBA reached out to Nance about participating in the dunk contest this year in Toronto on February 13. 

"That's something that I've always said I've wanted to do at some point," said Nance, in the report. "With the recent [injury] in my knee and everything, I don't want to go against the training staff's advice."

While Nance reportedly agreed with the staff's analysis, he said he'd "love to" participate (and try to defend his father's original title) next year or another time in the future.

"He can already do everything I did now," Larry Nance Sr. told ESPN. "I don't know what kind of old man stuff I can help him with. If he ever gets invited to be in the slam dunk contest, I'm sure I'll spend some nights awake trying to come up with some stuff."

According to Lakers Nation, Nance Jr. will "probably" return to the Lakers' lineup on Tuesday night after missing four games due to injury.
