Lakers front office takes draft prospect D'Angelo Russell to dinner (PHOTO)

The rumors flying around the Los Angeles Lakers' No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft have been consistent: Don't assume that the Lakers will simply take whichever big man the Minnesota Timberwolves pass over.

Jahlil Okafor and Karl-Anthony Towns might still be the two favorites to become the newest players to don the purple and gold, but Los Angeles could just as easily decide to take a wing or point guard. And in that case, the name that keeps popping up is D'Angelo Russell.

The 6-foot-5 guard out of Ohio State averaged 19.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game for the Buckeyes in his freshman season, and he flashed spectacular court vision for a player more inclined to put the ball in the bucket. He could easily be the best player in the draft, though it's obviously much too soon to tell.

For those skeptical that the Lakers could use their second overall pick on Russell, maybe this picture will serve as evidence.

One dinner doesn't mean a whole lot, of course, but it's good to see that Los Angeles is doing its due diligence up and down the board. And if Russell does in fact end up a Laker, consider this his first family portrait.
