Kings eliminated from NBA Las Vegas Summer League

The champs are out.

No, that's not a reference to the Golden State Warriors, who defeated the Cavaliers in the Finals last month to win their first title since 1975. Instead, it's a call to the Kings, the reigning champions of Las Vegas Summer League.

But now, after trying their mightiest to defend the belt, the Kings are gone, eliminated from the 2015 summer league playoffs.

The Kings looked on their way to advancing in the summer-league tournament and keeping alive their chance to repeat as champions.

Then came the third quarter Wednesday afternoon against the Golden State Warriors when the Kings were outscored 20-4 in an 83-67 loss at Thomas & Mack Center.

The Kings (1-3) will play the Miami Heat (1-3) Friday in a consolation game.

“We just couldn’t score,” said Kings assistant coach John Welch. “We were playing so well for stretches in the first half. We really had it going, playing with a flow, getting stops, pushing the ball, sharing the ball. Second half, the ball just stopped moving, we couldn’t get stops and we were playing against a set defense.”
