Kevin McHale: Rockets were addressing issues, but 'it wasn't working'

Wednesday morning started with a surprise in the NBA world, as the Houston Rockets parted ways with head coach Kevin McHale. The Rockets, a team with title aspirations this season, got off to a disappointing 4-7 start, and there were reports of a players-only meeting earlier this week.

The Houston Chronicle reports that McHale felt the Rockets were addressing the issues at hand, but that the situation in Houston ultimately wasn't working:

McHale had a 193-130 career record in the regular season with the Rockets. The team was 13-16 in the playoffs under his leadership as well. Yet general manager Daryl Morey told reporters that the Rockets didn't have time to wait for the situation to be resolved:

The Rockets face the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night before hosting the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. Assistant coach J. B. Bickerstaff will take over as interim head coach.
