Kevin Love stuns the world with 34-point first quarter
Kevin Love was eating like it was already Thanksgiving, and LeBron was happily dishing him up.
Love scored 34 points in the first quarter Wednesday against the Portland Trail Blazers — the second-highest quarter in NBA history — hitting 8 of 10 threes. Love outscored the Blazers singlehandedly as the Cavs led 46-31 after the first quarter, and they pushed the halftime lead to 81-60 without Love scoring in the second quarter.
His 34 points set an NBA record for a first quarter and matched the most points he'd scored as a Cav, which he accomplished last season. He added six in the third quarter and finished with 40 points, 11 shy of his career high, as the Cavs cruised to a 137-125 victory.
Damian Lillard also finished with 40, James had a triple-double (31 points, 10 rebounds, 13 assists) and the Cavs set a franchise record with 21 three-pointers.
