Karl-Anthony Towns schools Joel Embiid, jams on Timothe Luwawu (Video)
What Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns did to Joel Embiid and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot was just cruel
There was a tremendous amount of hype around Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns entering the 2016-17 season. Every bit of it was deserved as he looked like a polished star as a rookie. However, many of the young center-related headlines early this season have been about Joel Embiid. On Thursday night, though, the Philadelphia 76ers rookie and Timberwolves budding star clashed.
Advantage, KAT.
The Timberwolves were absolutely waxing the floor with the 76ers throughout the night. For most of the second and third quarters, their lead hovered around 30 points. Clearly, Philly couldn’t hang with them. However, that may not have been more evident than when Towns went to work on Embiid on the perimeter.
Towns got the ball on the left wing just inside the three-point line and squared-up on Embiid. He then jabbed-stepped and pump-faked a number of times to keep the rookie guessing. Once he got the Sixers youngster to bite, he went right around him, making him look ridiculously silly.
If Philadelphia wasn’t already looking foolish thanks to that defense, they looked even worse a moment later. Another rookie in Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot came to try and stop Towns and got dunked all over for his troubles:

There may not be many plays in the 2016-17 season that so clearly stated, “I’m better than you, here is why.” Towns owned that play and the 76ers from the moment the leather touched his hands.
Not to discredit Embiid, who’s been fantastic this season. But he’s not remotely on the level of Karl-Anthony Towns right now. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves big man continues to show he’s already in the upper-echelon of this league. And considering how young he is, he’ll only continue to ascend.
