Jazz add depth down low at No. 12, draft Lyles

In Rudy Gobert, the Utah Jazz have an elite Frenchman in their front court.

Now, they have a Canadian backing him up. With the 12th overall pick in the NBA Draft last night, the Jazz selected Kentucky forward Trey Lyles.

“His playmaking with the ball, his handle ... ability to keep his head up and play unselfish basketball is superior,” Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey said to reporters, following the pick. “Trey made some sacrifices not playing as many minutes at the four, which is his natural position. But playing the three, he learned to handle the ball, learned to execute. A big part of our game going forward is bigs that can guard smalls.”

Time will tell if Lyles' versatility as a big man will translate to the next level.
