How will Rondo's market look in free agency?
Rajon Rondo entered the 2014-15 season thinking on July 1 he would have himself a max contract. That obviously won't happen, but for all the trouble he caused the Dallas Mavericks, Rondo is still only 29 years old with quite a bit of quality basketball left in his legs.
Here's The Dallas Morning News' Eddie Sefko with more on how Rondo's summer may shake out:
"Well, we know the Lakers are interested. And there will be some others. In the right system, he would still be a great point guard. But it's just not happening here. If I'm the Lakers, I'm looking at the mid-level exception for him. And if somebody drives up the price, then you react accordingly. But you are right. Do you really want to spent $10-million or more per year for what you saw this season out of him?"
Regardless of how much money Rondo signs for, there's a good chance it won't be on a long-term deal. He has undeniable talent, but there's no questioning the number of variables in play whenever he changes location.
He needs to be surrounded by shooters and scorers and a coach he respects. If not, things can rapidly turn into a disaster. Count the Mavericks out of the running.
