Here's why the Grizzlies are resting Marc Gasol on Tuesday against the Cavaliers
The Grizzlies have won six in a row, and are coming off an impressive 21-point home win over the Warriors. You'd think they'd want to keep things rolling when they face the defending champion Cavaliers in Cleveland on Tuesday with two days' rest, but Memphis announced that its best player will be sitting out simply to rest.
Grizzlies fans may be disappointed, at least initially. But a quick look at the schedule will reveal the reason why Memphis made this decision.
The Grizzlies would be hard-pressed to beat the Cavaliers on the road, even at full strength. They'll have a much better chance the next night, however, when Cleveland has to travel to Memphis to face the Grizzlies in the second game of a home-and-home series.
Memphis is just playing the percentages here, doing what it can to ensure the Grizzlies have the best possible chance of earning a split over these next two games against the East-leading Cavaliers.
