Goran Dragic explains the origins of his 'Dragon' nickname

He can't breathe fire. He doesn't have wings. No knights are on their way to slay him (unless said Knight plays for the Phoenix Suns). But Miami Heat point guard Goran Dragic is "The Dragon." That's his nickname, and it's one of the best in the league.

But how did the nickname come about? After re-signing with the Heat this week, Dragic appeared on the Joe Rose Show in Miami to talk about his future, and that topic came up, giving Dragic a chance to explain how Steve Nash is the reason for the nickname:

"That nickname was given to me by Steve Nash when I came to the league and nobody could say my last name, Dragic," Dragic said. "Everybody was saying Dragika — nobody could say it. So he said, 'From now on you’re The Dragon. It’s much easier.' The funny thing is he didn’t know the capital city of Slovenia is Ljubljana and the logo is the dragon. I kind of like that nickname and I’ll stick with that."

As for Miami, Dragic is a big fan of the city, particularly its varied and mingled cultures. But he told the Joe Rose Show that even though the ocean is lovely, he's never been fishing. Someone needs to rectify this ASAP. Where's Udonis Haslem? UD seems like a fisherman. He's caught bigger game before, after all.
