Dwight Howard's Mom Cried After He Joked About Signing With Utah Jazz

Atlanta Hawks big man and former NBA All-Star Dwight Howard reduced his mother to tears when he told her that he had signed with the Utah Jazz.

Bed bugs. Charles Barkley’s golf swing. Finding a severed human hand at the bottom of your peanut butter jar. The Wade Boggs knuckleball. I would say that all of us, universally, would agree that these are awful things. Things we just don’t need in our lives, yet somehow find a way to exist in the world.

Alright, so I made the peanut butter thing up. But you get the idea.

If you’re the mother of Atlanta Hawks big man and eight-time All-Star Dwight Howard, there’s another thing that’s just as horrible as the stuff I’ve described. Maybe even worse. Something so awful that the very mention of it reduced her to tears.

So what is this terrible thing that brought out the water works for Dwight’s mama?

The very idea that her son would play for the Utah Jazz.

Appearing on the Doug Gottlieb Show on CBS Sports Radio on Monday, Howard said that he played a prank on his mother over the summer by telling her that he’d inked a $150 million dollar deal to join Gordon Hayward and the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. His motivation: “I wanted to see her reaction.”

To say that his proclamation didn’t go over well is the understatement of the century.

    In her defense, she was probably just hoping her baby boy would come home again. Nevertheless, as a Jazz guy, I can’t help but feel the burn.

    I’d take Salt Lake City, the Utah Jazz and $150 million every day of the week.
