Draymond Green reportedly will play for Team USA in Rio Olympics

With the NBA Finals in the rear-view mirror, the next big-ticket item on the basketball calendar is the Summer Olympics in Rio, and Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green apparently will be a big part of both.

Only hours after his Warriors lost Game 7 of The Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers, ESPN reported that Green has accepted an invitation from USA Basketball to play in Rio.

Green was one of the 31 finalists selected by USA Basketball back in January and he only improved his candidacy by making the All-Star team and helping the Warriors to an NBA-record 73 regular-season wins. He played in 81 games this season, averaging 14 points, 9.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists. Those numbers improved to 15.4 points, 9.9 rebounds and 6.0 assists during the playoffs.

Reports already have Sacramento Kings center DaMarcus Cousins on the Team USA roster and Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant saying he’ll play in Rio. Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis, John Wall, Chris Paul and James Harden are the finalists who have declared themselves out.

Now that the season is over, expect more RSVPs to roll in from the NBA’s best players in the coming days.
