Dikembe Mutombo's number expected to be retired by Nuggets soon

Former Denver Nuggets center Dikembe Mutombo will be immortalized in the Basketball Hall of Fame later on this month.

Mutombo, who spent the first five years of his career with the Denver Nuggets and led the team to one of the most notable playoff upsets of all-time against the Seattle Sonics during the 1993-94 season, is expected to have his number retired by the Nuggets at some point this season.

"On Sept. 11, Mutombo will stand on stage at Springfield Symphony Hall to be enshrined into the Hall of Fame. As early as this season, expect Dikembe Mutombo’s number to be retired by the Nuggets as well. Mutombo’s constantly packed schedule would be the only real obstacle in getting it done.  

Of course, he’d happily clear it like a layup off the glass for something like this."
