Did the Philadelphia 76ers have a successful summer?

The Philadelphia 76ers had an interesting summer. On one hand, they fleeced the Sacramento Kings in a lopsided trade. On the other, it was announced that Joel Embiid will miss the upcoming season thanks to another surgery.

Other than that, they didn't sign any free agents or make any moves to get noticeably better. But that's sort of the plan. So, was it a success?

Here's what the 76ers blog The Sixer Sense thinks:

"The Sixers saw a hole in Embiid, and saw that he was likely going to miss this year, and quickly made up for that with their top-tier draft pick. Getting Okafor was a great move, and I’m very excited to see what type of impact he makes on the team this year. I’m looking for him to make a run at rookie of the year. The point guard situation could be looked at as a negative, but let’s remember the Sixers now have a surplus of guards to choose from. Just because none of them are seen as true 'starting guards,' doesn’t mean that none of the players they have to choose from can’t grow into being just that.

It's almost impossible to judge Philly's summer because they aren't trying to get better. So from that sense, they grabbed a few interesting future assets and some young talent. That's good.

But they continue to be the most embarrassing team in the league, and nobody knows how much longer they'll hold that spot.
