Derrick Rose: I'll play how I want, not how others want me to
Derrick Rose is constantly scrutinized over the way he plays the game. Critics believe he doesn't get to the basket enough, and settles for too many outside shots -- which he has been knocking down at near career-low percentages.
Rose is acutely aware of the criticism, though, and after scoring 19 points in a win over the Grizzlies on Wednesday, he made it very clear that he doesn't care at all about what they have to say.
It's a balance, obviously. If Rose truly takes what the defense is giving him, then he's playing the game the right way, and that will benefit his team over the course of the season. But there will still be plenty of fans who want to see Rose attack in the aggressive way he used to before suffering multiple injuries.
Rose started the game strong, attacking the basket and scoring 10 points in the first quarter. When asked if he planned to drive more to the basket, Rose responded quickly.
"No," he said. "No. I'm going to play my game. My game is whatever they give me. I'm going to play the way that I want to play, not the way that people want me to play."
