Denver Nuggets: If Anthony Davis Is Out, Is Season Opener a Must-Win?

Anthony Davis has been bothered by right ankle sprain, and the Denver Nuggets would catch a huge break if he is ruled out of the season opener.

The Denver Nuggets season will open as they visit New Orleans and take on Anthony Davis led Pelicans.

Anthony Davis is a “unicorn” of a player that could give the Nuggets problems as he could easily have his way with Nikola Jokic. Although he is one of the leagues best and youngest players, Anthony Davis so far in his career has been bothered by several different injuries.

An article by NBA.com has this to say regarding Davis’ injury:

“The prognosis for Davis raises the prospects that he’ll either return in time for New Orleans’ regular-season opener on Oct. 26 against visiting Denver, or shortly afterward. New Orleans plays three games in the first week of the regular season, including a home contest against Golden State on Oct. 28 and a game at San Antonio on Oct. 29.”

Most reports have Davis being out at least 10 days and up to as many as 15 days. His injury history is truly sad as he is one of the most talent young players in the NBA.

The youngster has averaged 20.8 points per game, 9.7 rebounds per game, and 2.4 blocks per game in an injury-riddled first four seasons. Anthony Davis has one of the highest ceiling in the NBA.

If Anthony Davis is sidelined this game, it instantly turns into a must-win for the Nuggets. They would see a very depleted Pelicans team.

The Nuggets have this game that would be a must win, then they travel back home to play the Trail Blazers. The Nuggets will then have a very difficult five game road trip playing Toronto, Minnesota, Detroit, Boston, and Memphis in respective order.

If the Nuggets want to make the playoffs, they must start to take care of these depleted teams.
