DeMarcus Cousins, Matt Barnes sued over alleged fight at NYC nightclub

Sacramento Kings All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins and veteran forward Matt Barnes are being sued by two people in connection with an alleged assault at a New York City nightclub Monday morning.

According to a lawsuit filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on Wednesday, Jasmine Besiso and Myrone Powell were at Avenue Nightclub when the alleged incident with Cousins and Barnes occurred in the nightclub’s VIP area.

"Jasmine Besiso and Myrone Powell suffered severe personal injuries as a result of the intentional assaults and batteries by (the) defendants and were treated for same at Lenox Hill Hospital," attorney Michael Lamonsoff wrote in the filing, via USA Today.

In the lawsuit, which was first reported by TMZ, Besiso alleges that Barnes grabbed her “by the neck and began choking her” as the two plaintiffs were in the VIP area. She says in the lawsuit, which seeks more than $75,000, that Barnes “intentionally elbowed” her in the face, leaving her unconscious, after he stopped choking her.

According to the lawsuit, Powell allegedly tried to defend Besiso when he was punched by Cousins and then kicked “in the head, torso and lower body” by the two players.

The NYPD said Monday that it hoped to speak with Barnes about the alleged assault, but no criminal charges have been filed against either Barnes or Cousins.

Alex Spiro, the attorney representing both players, told ESPN, "We do not believe a crime was committed and are hopeful no charges will be pressed."
