Clippers' Evans 'shocked' by NBA fine

Los Angeles Clippers forward Reggie Evans was fined $25,000 on Friday for making an obscene gesture during a game against New Orleans.

''I was shocked, really shocked,'' he said before the Clippers' game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Evans admitted he made the gesture, but he said it wasn't directed at the fans. He said teammates Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan were teasing him from the bench, telling him, ''Good job, cupcake,'' a name they call each other in practice.

''It's an inside joke is what's going on,'' he said. ''I'm smiling. I'm looking at DJ and Blake, like, 'Oh, I can't want to get on the bench and get back at you all. But I can't right now because I'm on the court.' ''

The incident occurred with 4:23 remaining in the second quarter of the Clippers' 97-85 home win over the Hornets on Monday night. The fine was announced by Stu Jackson, the NBA's executive vice president of basketball operations.

''I'm not going to sit up here and disrespect the game,'' Evans said.
