Cleveland Cavaliers: Is Kyrie Irving's Greatest Overshadowed by LeBron James?

The 2016 NBA Finals is defined by the series ending block in Game 7 by LeBron James, but maybe it is time for Kyrie Irving to start getting love.

The 2016 Finals is just one instance of Kyrie Irving being overlooked. His 25.2 points per game on 47.5% shooting went unnoticed as LeBron took over seemingly every game.

Even this season, as Kyrie Irving is averaging a career-high 23.9 minutes per game, the rave around Cleveland is still centered around their hometown hero LeBron James.

According to FOX Sports (full article can be seen here), LeBron James said this regarding his point guard Irving: “He doesn’t have any weaknesses, especially offensively,” James said of Irving. “He’s been great so far. If guys take away his driving lanes, he’s able to create off the dribble, make pull-up jumpers. He can shoot the 3-ball too, so, he doesn’t have any weaknesses offensively so it doesn’t matter.”

Although Kyrie gets his love from LeBron, it seems at times that his home fanbase forgets him. After the championship banner of LeBron was waving basically over all of Cleveland and the search for JR’s shirt was on, where was Kyrie’s praise?

Unlike renown point guards like Damian Lillard, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, and many other like John Wall, Kyrie Irving does receive the national spotlight on occasion, and that needs to change.

Along with a career-low turnover rate and a career-high true shooting percentage, Kyrie Irving has been putting in the work to deserve much more of the spotlight.
