Celtics' Terry Rozier wants to 'be that spark plug' this season

Boston Celtics rookie point guard Terry Rozier will have a difficult time finding minutes this season. The backcourt is extremely crowded, with established names like Avery Bradley, Evan Turner and Isaiah Thomas, along with up-and-coming talents like Marcus Smart, already ahead of him on the depth chart.

But that hasn't stopped Rozier from believing he can make a difference right away. Here's what he told the Boston Globe about how he views his role next season:

“I just need to find ways to stay on the floor and play. I want to push the pace and defensively step up. I like to play a fast tempo and just want to help this team go, make them go, be that spark plug...I think I grew a lot out there, just seeing the spacing and learning to play with a different pace at this level. I’m a fast learner, so to meet people and be in that environment was special, because I learned a lot and got better.”

The team's actual spark plug is Thomas, a feisty scorer off the bench who can efficiently put the ball in the basket from just about any spot on the floor. Rozier might be the fastest player on the team, though. And where Thomas can't defend anyone, Rozier should step in and immediately be one of the best defensive players in his class.

But Smart and Bradley aren't too shabby on that end, and they bring skills to the table Rozier doesn't yet own.
