Celtics likely without Pierce on Thursday vs. Cavs

Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers says star forward Paul Pierce likely will miss the game Thursday against Cleveland because of a lingering right thumb injury.

Rivers would not definitively rule Pierce out after practice on Wednesday. Pierce did not practice because Rivers did not want to risk the thumb taking a hit.

Rivers says the injury is a sprain.

Marquis Daniels also missed practice on Wednesday. Rivers said he "looked awful" when he showed up so the team sent him home.
