Bulls announcer Stacey King hilariously mispronounces Giannis Antetokounmpo's name (Video)
Giannis who? Watch a video featuring Chicago Bulls announcer Stacey King hilariously mispronounce Giannis Antetokounmpo’s name.
Spelling and pronouncing Giannis Antetokounmpo’s name is tougher than challenging Marvel Comics dynamo Luke Cage to a street fight. No, seriously, saying a first and last name with twenty letters is more than a mouthful.
For someone as good as Antetokounmpo, how long will it take for people to get his name correct? He’s already ascending into one of the best all-around players in the NBA and he’s barely old enough to purchase an alcoholic beverage.
In a preseason contest featuring the Milwaukee Bucks and the Chicago Bulls, former NBA player and current Bulls announcer Stacey King attempted to eloquently state the four-year pro’s name, and he made of mockery of himself. In King’s defense, the attempt wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but it could have been a lot better.

The tongue roll was sort of impressive as he sounded as if he was singing his own rendition of the Macarena, but he wasn’t close in stating his name correctly.
Who said preseason was just for the players? King’s mishap only proves that the announcers need some time to shake off the off-season rust as well. In the meantime, King has a few weeks to get Giannis’ full name correct before the Bucks face off against Bulls several times during the regular season.
All in all, it’s great that the NBA is back, despite the rust from players and announcers. With that said, for those who can’t properly pronounce Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks’ budding superstar’s name, don’t take notes from Mr. King. When in doubt, just call him “The Greek Freak.”
