Brooklyn Nets: Kenny Atkinson Calls Yogi Ferrell the 'Energizer Bunny'

Brooklyn Nets point guard Yogi Ferrell is one of the most dynamic players on the Nets roster. In Summer League and just one preseason game, Ferrell has displayed energy, and head coach Kenny Atkinson realizes that.

Yogi Ferrell is the shortest man on the Brooklyn Nets roster, but he is not short of energy. Despite only standing at six feet and weighing 180 pounds, in his brief time with the Nets, he has already shown the dynamism he can bring.

As reported by Brian Lewis of the New York Post, Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson recognizes the energy Ferrell brings to the team.

“He’s the Energizer Bunny. We saw that in Summer League. He can score in bunches. He’s dynamic. He’s done a really good job in camp.”

In Thursday’s preseason opener against the Detroit Pistons, Ferrell provided a spark off the bench. He finished with five points in all 12 minutes of fourth quarter action, which includes being the catalyst to the Nets’ 16-2 run with 7:41 remaining in the game.

Ferrell spent four years at Indiana University and finished his college career as the Hoosiers’ all-time leader in assists. Though going undrafted, he was offered a chance to play in the NBA with a partially-guaranteed deal from the Nets. Now, he’ll be looking to showcase his talent throughout the rest of the preseason, in hopes of making the final 15-man roster.

With the Nets’ plethora of backcourt players, Ferrell’s chances to make the final cut are slim. Still, he isn’t afraid of what the outcome will be, even if it’s Long Island.

“I’m not worried about whether or not partial or D-League. I’m just going to go out and do what I’ve always done the entire time I’ve played basketball. That’s just being a point guard, facilitator first, scorer second. I’m just going to go in and try to help my team win as much as possible.”

Ferrell will be able to show all he can offer in five more preseason games, which includes tonight’s game against the New York Knicks. With just 17 days left until the regular season, Brooklyn will be making cuts soon, and we’ll see soon enough where Ferrell will end up.
