Boban Marjanovic reportedly agrees to contract with Pistons, Spurs have right to match

Boban Marjanovic quickly became a fan favorite in his first NBA season with the Spurs, despite averaging just 9.4 minutes per game in 54 regular-season appearances. The 7-3 big man ranked third in the league in Player Efficiency Rating (PER) behind only Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant, and often times dazzled with plays like these.

Marjanovic entered the summer as a restricted free agent, which means that San Antonio has the right to match any offer he receives. After reportedly agreeing to a three-year offer sheet worth $21 million with the Detroit Pistons, however, it seems as though the Spurs may simply let him leave.

Dewayne Dedmon doesn't have nearly the potential that Marjanovic displayed, but as usual, the Spurs will have a stacked roster next season. There would have been a limited opportunity for the 27-year-old to develop, so San Antonio simply went with a far less-expensive option.
