Beverley ices Hayward by yanking his arm down before a free throw
If casual NBA fans know Patrick Beverley for anything at all, it's for a controversial play he made near the end of the regular season in 2013 which resulted in Russell Westbrook suffering a season-ending injury.
It was a play that Westbrook himself had made in the past, and these are far from the only players in the league who attempt to steal the ball when it's known the opposing team is going to call a timeout. But it brought Beverley's agitating style of play into the spotlight, and he's been involved in many more contentious incidents ever since.
Beverley was at it again in Utah's win over the Rockets on Monday, but this time, all he did was distract Gordon Hayward on a late-game free throw attempt by yanking his arm down as he prepared to take his shot.

The miss left the door open for the Rockets, because it kept the Utah lead at just three and made it a one-possession game. Jason Terry knocked down a three to tie it on the very next possession, which sent the game to overtime before the Jazz ultimately came away with the win.
What Beverley did wasn't necessarily illegal. But most would consider it to be an unsportsmanlike gesture.
