Anthony Davis 'excited' to see what Alvin Gentry can do

Given their recent success, Alvin Gentry is more commonly affiliated with the Golden State Warriors of recent vintage than with any other team. There are worse fates, of course. But for those who wonder what Gentry brings to the table as a head coach, rather than as an associate, it's helpful to look back to his Phoenix Suns.

Pelicans star Anthony Davis is doing just that, as he recently told Sports Illustrated that he's excited to see what Gentry will bring to New Orleans based on his work with Steve Nash, Amar'e Stoudemire and the rest of the offensive firepower that called Phoenix home circa 2010:

"I know [Gentry] did a lot in Phoenix when he was with Amar'e [Stoudemire] and Steve Nash," Davis said. "I remember watching them play all the time and how they played that up-tempo pace. I’m very excited for what he can bring to our organization. I can’t wait for the year to start and get rolling and see what he has to bring to our team to make us go to the next step."

Davis averaged 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game during the regular season and posted a 30.8 PER, a one-number measure of a player's contributions to the scoreboard. Now just imagine those numbers with an offensive guru like Gentry at the helm. Or don't imagine; you'll be able to see for yourself in just over four short months.
