Alexey Shved attempts the worst shot of all time
There was a time in 2012 when people were notably excited about Alexey Shved. The Russian had just shown off major skills in the Olympics and was coming over to the NBA to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the fall. He was going to make an impact.
During the first month of the season, he did, but after slowing down and later making pit stops in Philadelphia, Houston and now New York, Shved is putting up shots like this one (h/t to Bleacher Report):
Oh no. That is not supposed to happen. I am genuinely concerned.
Clearly the ball slipped, but have we ever actually seen a shot miss by that much? It begs the question: Was Shved even shooting? Is a flail a shot? If you miss by tens of feet and throw the ball out of bounds, should we just count it statistically as a turnover merely because it would be disrepectful to the term "shot" to refer to such a play as a field-goal attempt? Or did Shved just invent a new stat: the shot turnover, used when a player misses an attempt so badly that no one can even refer to it by its real play type.
Alexey Shved: basketball revolutionary.
