The Golden State Warriors rolled to a huge win at home over the young Phoenix Suns on Saturday night.
After losing a tough game in double overtime on Thursday night, the Golden State Warriors got back on a roll with a blowout win over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night. The Warriors put up 138 points in regulation and continued the offensive tear that they have been on.
Even more impressive was the fact that they won in blowout fashion over the Suns. While Phoenix is a team that is struggling, they have taken the Warriors to the wire the last three meetings before this one and clearly felt some sort of mental edge. Here’s what we learned from Saturday night.
3. Klay Thompson is streaky right now
You just don’t know which Klay Thompson you are going to get on a nightly basis. Some nights he is incredibly off, like Thursday. Then tonight he was on fire and went six-of-seven from beyond the arc.
That’s just what you come to expect from shooters but not necessarily Thompson. Consistency has always been one of his strong suits and he’s usually fairly accurate on most night. This year has been a bit of a roller coaster and the team might hit another gear if he starts stringing together games like this one.

2. JaVale McGee is a man of the people
JaVale McGee is becoming one of the most entertaining parts of watching Golden State. It’s not just because he’s earning the minutes that he is getting either. McGee had a classic moment trying to inbound the ball for the Suns on Saturday night, which has already gone viral.
He’s prone to making some mental mistakes at times, but he is clearly a good sport. He’s also making a case to be the starter at center. He had another fantastic night off the bench and one has to wonder if Kerr has thought about trying him with the starters.
With the Warriors winning 17 of 20 to begin the season they aren’t likely to make any changes in that regard. However, he could still play starter minutes from a bench role as well. If he keeps making a difference on defense and doesn’t disrupt the offensive flow, he will get his chance.
He’s an entertaining personality and a good guy. There’s just way too much to like about him that’s made him a crowd favorite. It’s one thing to be funny, but it’s another to be hilarious and helping make a difference for the team.

1. Kevin Durant is playing at an MVP level
He might not have led the team in scoring on Saturday night, but Kevin Durant is playing like the best player on the floor every game. It’s hard to believe that he’s gotten better as a player considering how good he already is, but it feels like he’s reached another level this season.
He went on that incredible scoring tear to begin the season and he’s shooting the ball at an efficient clip. Perhaps it’s playing with another MVP like Stephen Curry that helps him get the ball or the fact the Warriors pass the ball better than any team in the league.
If the Warriors keep winning the way that they are and finish with the best record in the league again, Durant is going to have a serious argument for the MVP award. It’s going to be tough if Russell Westbrook averages a triple double, but a lot of his chance at winning the award depends on how well the Thunder finish the year.
You can just feel the way he makes the team better around him and that’s what MVP’s do. Golden State hasn’t reached their peak yet and that’s sort of a scary thing to think about. They’re already putting up ridiculous points totals in regulation and their assists ratio is something that can’t be understated. It’s not all Durant, but his presence is MVP worthy.
