XFINITY Series race to the Chase points update after Watkins Glen

There was no change within the top 12 in the XFINITY Series points standings following Saturday's Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International.

Still, with just six races remaining now in the regular season before the inaugural XFINITY Chase for the championship commences, the battle for the 12 playoff berths continues to heat up.

Twelve drivers will qualify for the XFINITY Chase -- and while the top 12 remained the same after Saturday's race, two drivers just on the outside looking in made gains in the points battle by virtue of Saturday's results.

Those drivers were Ross Chastain and Dakoda Armstrong, each of whom moved up one spot in the standings. Chastain is now in 13th, just two points behind Blake Koch in 12th; while Armstong is in 14th, seven points behind Koch and just nine behind Koch and the coveted 12th spot.

The big loser on the day was Jeremy Clements, who dropped two spots to 15th after finishing 25th in the Zippo 200.

The seven-race XFINITY Chase will begin at Kentucky Speedway on Sept. 24, and will feature two elimination rounds before the Championship 4 drivers are determined for a winner-takes-all season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Elliott Sadler continues to be the points leader, with Daniel Suarez, Ty Dillon, Erik Jones and Justin Allgaier rounding out the current top five.

Jones, with a series-high three wins, already is a lock for the Chase -- as are Sadler and Suarez with one win apiece. No other series regular has been able to crack the win column yet this season, with Sprint Cup regular Joey Logano going to Victory Lane Saturday at The Glen.
