William Byron among those collected in early 8-car wreck at Eldora

It didn't take long for a big wreck to strike in Wednesday night's Aspen Dental Eldora Dirt Derby, as the trucks driven by Caleb Holman and Stewart Friesen got together coming off Turn 3 on a restart, triggering an incident that ended up collecting eight trucks in all.

Also involved were the trucks of William Byron, Daniel Hemric, Spencer Gallagher, Cameron Hayley, John Hunter Nemechek and Ben Kennedy.

It was the first time racing on dirt for Byron, the 18-year-old rookie who already has won four Camping World Truck Series race this season. But th incident ensured he would not be able to race for the win at Eldora.

The wreck occurred on Lap 35 of the 150-lap main event that was split into three segments of 40 laps, 50 laps and 60 laps.

Byron was able to get back on the track in his No. 9 truck, but his night went from bad to worse on Lap 71 when he got caught up in another wreck that was triggered by the No. 51 truck of Cody Coughlin going around.
