Weather remains iffy for delayed Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono

Editor’s Note: Updated at 11:50 a.m. ET.

Things have taken a turn for the worse this morning at Pocono Raceway, as a light mist and heavy fog in Northeast Pennsylvania have hampered track drying efforts.

Sunday’s Pennsylvania 400 at the 2.5-mile, three-turn track was rained out, with the race rescheduled at first for 11 a.m. today. But the fog and mist are making it difficult to prep the track, and now the track has announced on Twitter that the new start time is set for 12:07 p.m. ET.

That said, the forecast doesn’t look bad.

According to Weather.com, the chance of rain at Pocono is zero percent at 11 a.m. and 5 percent at noon. By 1 p.m., the forecast calls for a 15 percent chance of rain, rising to 55 percent at 3 p.m.

NASCAR never starts a race without the possibility of going the full scheduled distance, and the first Pocono race this year took 3 hours, 11 minutes and 15 seconds.

If today’s forecast holds true -- always an iffy assumption -- it looks like NASCAR ought to be able to get most, if not all, of the race in.

Interesting footnote: This is the first time in history a track has had both of its NASCAR Premier Series races rained out in a single season.

Pocono does not have lights, so racing into the evening is not a viable option.

FOXSports.com will update the weather throughout the morning.
