Watkins Glen race delayed by rain
Rain overcame the NASCAR Sprint Cup field Sunday at Watkins Glen International, forcing the delay of the start of the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen until Monday. Green flag is scheduled for 10 a.m. ET.
FOXSports.com will have lap-by-lap coverage of the race.
Rain threatened all weekend, but most expected to at least get the race started before it came. Instead, it began drizzling as drivers prepared to get into their cars to take the green flag. Then the rain picked up.
It continued until the race was officially postponed at 4:25 p.m. ET.
The forecast isn’t great for Monday, either, with a 60 percent chance of rain in the forecast.
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch is in the pole position for the race, with Richard Petty Motorsports’ AJ Allmendinger also on the front row. RPM’s Marcos Ambrose, Hendrick Motorsports’ Jimmie Johnson and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing’s Juan Pablo Montoya round out the top five.
Denny Hamlin won the last race delayed a day by rain, in April 2010 at Martinsville Speedway.
