Trevor Bayne scores third-place finish at Daytona after wild restart

Roush Fenway Racing driver Trevor Bayne hasn't seen much success at Daytona International Speedway since his incredible victory in the 2011 Daytona 500.

Aside from a 9th-place result in last year's Coke Zero 400, Bayne's highest finish since the historic win was 20th in July 2013.

But that all changed on Saturday night, where Bayne rocketed from 12th on the final restart of the race to wind up third -- his best finish of the season.

"That last restart was wild," said Bayne after the race. "We restarted 12th and with help from the No. 3 car were able to get up to the outside and really make up some ground. We got behind the No. 18 down the backstretch and I pushed him with all I had."

Bayne currently sits 17th in the point standings with just nine races remaining before the Chase for the Sprint Cup begins.

"It's not a win that we need to get in the Chase, but it's a great step in the right direction for making it in on points," added Bayne.

Bayne trails 16th-place driver Jamie McMurray in the standings by only 10 points as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Kentucky Speedway for another Saturday night race on July 9.
