Still smiling: Joey Logano follows Daytona win with fourth at AMS
One week after scoring a dramatic win in the season-opening Daytona 500, Team Penske's Joey Logano sat on the Atlanta Motor Speedway pit wall following Sunday's Folds of Honor QuickTrip 500 -- and he was still smiling.
The driver of the No. 22 Ford had just climbed from his car after a fourth-place finish and had a solid weekend overall at the 1.54-mile speedway.
Starting from the pole, Logano had the dominant car in the opening stages of Sunday's Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500, leading 84 of the opening 86 laps.
However, as the rest of the competition adjusted on their cars and improved throughout the race, Logano's team struggled to keep up with the changes.
"Those guys just got faster and we stayed the same speed," said Logano. "It's hard to make your car go faster when it's pretty good to start off with. We've just got a little bit more work to do to find a little bit more speed."
A strong weekend all throughout, Logano won both the Sprint Cup and Xfinity Series poles, was fast in both series' practice sessions, finished second to Kevin Harvick in Saturday's Xfinity race and finished fourth behind Jimmie Johnson, Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr. in Sunday's Sprint Cup event.
With one victory and a Chase berth already locked up, Logano still has plenty to smile about after two races in the 2015 season.
"It feels nice to have the moment that we've got right now," he said. "We've had a couple strong runs right off the bat in both the Xfinity car and this car this weekend. A couple poles, the Daytona 500 win, so the season's going good so far. We've just got to keep it going."
