Speeds should be fast at Kansas
This weekend at Kansas will be another new chapter for this Generation 6 Sprint Cup car.
I know we’ve already been to two tracks that are a mile-and-a-half in length — Las Vegas and Texas. We’ve been to the two-mile track at Fontana about a month ago.
What makes this weekend really unique for this new car is this is the first time it’s going to be on a one-and-a-half-mile track with a very fresh racing surface.
The speeds are going to be unbelievable. The Roush Fenway Racing guys went and did a test there a few weeks ago, and they were reporting corner entry speeds faster than 210 mph.
With the way these cars are driving and as forgiving as they seem to be with the downforce they have, these drivers are still going to feel nice and comfortable racing at these high speeds.
You also won’t see the type of give-up in the tires and the speeds like we saw at Texas, Fontana or Las Vegas — for the simple reason that this new surface that’s not even a year old has a ton of grip.
