See Erik Jones' new paint scheme (and sponsor) for Atlanta Cup race
Erik Jones, the promising rookie driver of the No. 77 Furniture Row Racing Toyota, has a new primary sponsor and accompanying paint scheme for this Sunday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta.
Television coverage of the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 will begin Sunday at 1 p.m. on FOX, with the green flag scheduled to drop at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET.
Jones and Furniture Row Racing’s No. 77 Toyota Camry team will be sporting a different uniform and paint scheme for the race. SiriusXM will be the primary sponsor as part of a two-race partnership, with the second race yet to be announced.
5-hour ENERGY is scheduled as the primary sponsor of the No. 77 Toyota for 22 races and Sport Clips will have four during Jones’ rookie season. Sponsorship for the balance of the races will be announced at a later date, the team said in a release.
This will be Jones first race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in NASCAR’s Premier Series, but he has logged three previous starts on the 1.54-mile oval in Hampton, Georgia, including two in the XFINITY Series and one in the Camping World Truck Series.
His best finish came in last season's XFINITY race, when he qualified on the outside of the front row and finished third in the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.
Jones, 20, is coming off a disappointing debut in last Sunday's Daytona 500 after getting caught up in a wreck that took him out of the race just past halfway in the 200-lap event.
“Everybody was really minding their P’s and Q’s, I thought up to that point, throughout the whole field," Jones said. "I was trying to figure it all out and I thought we were in a good spot to cycle out towards the front. It’s unfortunate, but I learned a lot.”
