Ryan Newman and Richard Childress Racing extend partnership
Veteran driver Ryan Newman, in his third year with RCR, inks multi-year deal to stay with team.
Richard Childress Racing announced today that they have reached a multi-year agreement with Ryan Newman to remain behind the wheel of the No. 31 Chevrolet for the foreseeable future. The 38-year-old South Bend, Indiana native is currently in his third season with RCR.
“Ryan’s consistency on the track has been a benefit to our organization and this extension solidifies the future of our racing program,” said Richard Childress, Chairman and CEO of RCR, in a release. “Ryan proved the first year he was here that we could contend for championships and with this continuation, I believe we can fulfill our commitment to winning races and a championship. Ryan has worked hard to represent many of our partners, especially the primary sponsors Caterpillar, Grainger and WIX Filters, helping them to get the most out of their respective racing programs.”
Newman and crew chief Luke Lambert have partnered to bring RCR a pair of Chase appearances including a 2014 effort that was just one point from winning the title. It was also a career-best finish in the Cup point standings.
“I am pleased to continue driving for Richard Childress Racing,” said Newman. “Our goal to win a championship all but turned into a reality during our first year together. I feel like since then, we have some unfinished business to complete. I’m fortunate to have forged a great relationship with my crew chief Luke Lambert, and I very much want to not only help him reach our goal of winning a Cup championship but also getting him his first Cup victory.”
Newman’s career has spanned 17 years in the Sprint Cup Series with 17 victories including an amazing eight trips to the winner’s circle in 2003, also taking the 50th Daytona 500 in 2008 and the 2013 Brickyard 400. Overall, he has 105 top-5 and 224 top-10 finishes while adding 51 poles. In 2016, he has a pair of top-5s and nine top-10s to his credit.
