Rain washes out XFINITY race, all Friday activities at Charlotte

Rain pelted Charlotte Motor Speedway relentlessly on Friday throughout the morning, washing out all on-track activities for the day.

NASCAR officials made the call to pull the plug on the day's scheduled events, including an XFINITY Series Chase race that had been scheduled for Friday night, shortly after noon ET. The XFINITY race will now be run 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Among the events scheduled for Friday that were cancelled were a pair of Sprint Cup practices, plus qualifying for the XFINITY race.

As of now, Saturday night's Bank of America 500, the first race in the second round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup playoffs, remains on as scheduled. Green flag is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.

According to Weather.com, the forecast for Saturday is pretty brutal -- up until about the time the race is scheduled to go off. It calls for a 95 percent to 100 percent chance of rain from 1 a.m. ET all the way through 2 p.m. ET, when it drops to 55 percent. It then drops to 15 percent at 6 p.m. and remains at about that for the rest of the evening.
