President Obama to host champ Kevin Harvick, team at White House

President Barack Obama will honor 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick and his Stewart-Haas Racing team on Tuesday, April 21 at White House in Washington, D.C.

For years, the sitting President has honored championship athletes and teams from across the sports world, including NASCAR, usually for their championship-winning seasons.

The ceremony will take place at 2:45 p.m. ET on April 21.

Championship-winning crew chief Rodney Childers said he never thought he would be able to go to the White House and meet the President.

"It's pretty cool," Childers told FOXSports.com Friday at Bristol Motor Speedway. "It got brought up a while back and it's been a pretty quiet deal. You've seen some guys do that in the past and you thought to yourself, 'Man, if I could ever do that it would be an honor.' I've never actually been (to Washington D.C.) and seen any of that stuff. I'm really excited to see that side of it. To take all the road crew from last year, it's going to be fun for all of us."

The last NASCAR driver to visit the White House on an official visit was NASCAR XFINITY Series driver Ryan Blaney, who made the trip in December 2014 to promote tire maintenance with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx.

Jimmie Johnson was the last driver to officially meet with President Obama, when he honored the 2013 Sprint Cup champion in June 2014.

Jeff Gordon and his family recently attended the White House Easter Egg Roll, with his son Leo giving the Commander in Chief a high-five.
