NASCAR announces fan-friendly Champions Week

Officials have announced the schedule for activities during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Champions Week, a postseason celebration of the top series drivers which is held in Las Vegas.

Several of the activities are open to fans, with some tracks already posting ways to win tickets to the annual awards ceremony, which is Dec. 3 at the Wynn Las Vegas. The ceremony will have same-day coverage on SPEED.

Approximately 300 tickets will be available to fans through tracks, NASCAR partners and teams.

Tickets can be secured to the awards ceremony, a preceding reception and red carpet event, the After Lap event and, for the first time, the NASCAR National Motorsports Press Association Myers Brothers Awards Luncheon.

The events kick off Wednesday, Dec. 1 with a NASCAR Street Tour featuring two tricked-out NASCAR Ford interactive vehicles, which will be in Vegas throughout the week. From Dec. 1-3, the Pit Stop Tour program includes show cars placed at iconic locations throughout Vegas. At 10 a.m. Dec. 1, the gates open for the Chasers for Charity Event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, in which the Richard Petty Driving Experience will offer rides, with a percentage of the proceeds being donated to charity. Tours of the facility, live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a Family Feud style game including all 12 Chase drivers will be a part of the day. Admission is free and transportation will be available from the Las Vegas Strip and downtown locations.

On Thursday at 11 a.m., the Myers Brothers Luncheon will be held in the Bellagio Ballroom. This event includes the presentation of awards to the champion crew chief, champion sponsor, Raybestos Rookie of the Year and Most Popular Driver. At 3:30 p.m., the 12 drivers will motor down the Las Vegas Strip in an event that features a pit stop and two burnout sections. This starts at Planet Hollywood and ends at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. At 4:30, the After Lap event begins at the Hard Rock. The free event features question-and-answer sessions with drivers. Fans can register for tickets at nascarafterthelap.com starting Sept. 13.

The awards ceremony is Friday night at 6 p.m. and honors the top 10 drivers in the series.
