Joey Logano: Truex Jr. 'was fast no matter what aero package we had'

After winning the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, Joey Logano had a rough night the second time around at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600.

Logano started on the front row alongside pole-sitter and eventual race winner Martin Truex Jr., but that was the best view of the front he would have all night after finishing ninth.

"I thought we had a second-place car if we had the track position, but we shot ourselves in the foot and got ourselves behind the 8-ball," Logano told FOX Sports after the race. "We'll recover and go on to the next one."

The driver of the No. 22 Team Penske Ford also spoke more in-depth about the differences between the low-downforce package used in the All-Star Race compared to what was used Sunday night.

Logano said the differences were quickly apparent in practice for the Coke 600.

"I think the added skewed from the All-Star Race to this race made it tougher to pass, which goes to show you that we're going in the right direction when we're thinking what we want to do to these cars to improve the racing in the Sprint Cup Series," said Logano.  "When you put the car sideways, they have more grip, which puts a bigger wake out to the right and making it more challenging to pass."

"It's definitely a good improvement from where we were last year, but I think there's a lot more room to make the racing even better," he added.

Logano was also one of the many drivers who were impressed with Truex Jr.'s incredible performance, leading 588 of the 600 miles, which broke a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series record for most laps and miles led by a driver.

"I don't think anyone was going to pass Martin (Truex Jr.)," Logano said. "He was fast no matter what aero package we had. He was on fire tonight."
