Jimmie Johnson's Clash woes continue for sixth year

For the sixth consecutive year, seven-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson failed to completed the Advance Auto Parts Clash at Daytona International Speedway.

Johnson got loose in Turn 4 on Lap 18 and hit Kurt Busch, knocking the No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford headfirst into the frontstretch wall and out of the race. But Johnson was able to continue.

Then, on Lap 50, Johnson got loose again at the exit to Turn 4 and crashed on his on, in an incident eerily similar to the ones that his Hendrick Motorsports teammates Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Chase Elliott had in last year’s Daytona 500.

With his car damaged, Johnson became a DNF, as teams can no longer re-enter the race once their cars go to the garage.

Johnson was officially credited with a 16th-place finish in the 17-car race.
