Jemsek drew attention to more than herself
Jordan Jemsek, the little girl who captured the hearts of the JTG Daugherty Racing team during her recent battle with leukemia, is now free of cancer.
According to a story in the Charlotte Observer, Jemsek spoke to elementary students at a Charlotte, NC, school this week as part of a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
But, as the story says she told them: “I am free of cancer now.”
Jemsek, now in first grade, spent the past two years battling leukemia. After an initial story in the Observer caught the attention of the NASCAR Sprint Cup team, driver Bobby Labonte and the team members visited Jemsek in the hospital and began promoting a program to find bone marrow matches.
Their efforts were chronicled by FOXSports.com and followed closely by fans throughout the sport.
