Friday Sprint Cup practice results from Auto Club Speedway

Austin Dillon’s terrific start to the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season continues.

Dillon, who is eighth in points -- a huge improvement over his 21st-place points finish from 2015 -- paced Friday’s lone Sprint Cup practice at Auto Club Speedway.

Dillon’s No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet lapped the high-speed track at 188.511 miles per hour to lead the 90-minute session over Martin Truex Jr. (188.432 mph), Kevin Harvick, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and rookie Chris Buescher.

This weekend marks the first time the Sprint Cup Series' new low-downforce rules package has been used at Auto Club, a 2-mile track in Southern California.

Fontana marks the fifth race weekend of 2016. A different driver and organization have won the four races run so far this season.
