Final practice results for the FireKeepers Casino 400 at MIS
It’s go time at Michigan International Speedway.
NASCAR wrapped up all the preliminaries Saturday afternoon in advance of Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 (FS1, 11:30 a.m. ET) at MIS.
And in the final Happy Hour practice session, Austin Dillon led the way, lapping the 2-mile track at 194.301 miles per hour in his No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.
Second fast was Michigan native Brad Keselowski, who ran 194.013 mph in the No. 2 Team Penske Ford.
Six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson was third, with Trevor Bayne and Pocono winner Kurt Busch completing the top five.
This weekend is the first of two races where NASCAR is using a low downforce package designed to reduce speeds in the middle of the corners, which in theory should make passing easier.
Joey Logano will start from the pole in his Team Penske Ford, flanked by the Furniture Row Racing Toyota of Martin Truex Jr.
Unfortunately for Truex, his team suffered its fourth inspection violation, which means they forfeited their ability to pick a pit stall. As a penalty, Truex wound up with last choice in pit stalls, with his stall being No. 13.
